Ituri: Caritas Mahagi-Nioka celebrated its Patroness with commitment to imitate her virtues
Mahagi, November 18, 2024 (caritasdev.cd): Caritas-Development Mahagi-Nioka (CDM) commemorated its patron saint on Sunday, November 17, 2024. This is Saint Elizabeth of Hungary, known for her humility, charity and dedication to the poor. A celebration which raises awareness among CDM executives and Agents, in particular, and the entire community, of dedication to people in situations of distress, like their patron saint.
The day was first opened with the Eucharistic celebration presided over by Monsignor Sosthène Ayikuli, Bishop of Mahagi-Nioka and President of the Board of Directors of this Caritas, at the Notre-Dame de Lourdes Cathedral in Mahagi. Several thousand people participated in this celebration, including Catholic faithful, beneficiaries of CDM action, the Military Administrator of the Mahagi Territory, represented, and several other guests. In his homily, Monsignor Sosthène Ayikuli, invited the assembly to charity, like Saint Elizabeth of Hungary. The Bishop of the diocese of Mahagi-Nioka praised the qualities and virtues of the patron saint of the CDM.
After the Eucharistic celebration, the meeting took place at the reception center of this charitable institution, where several actions in favor of the most deprived were carried out: gifts for the elderly, a mobilization of funds in favor of a mother of the triplets, displaced by war in addition, and a special mobilization of funds for the benefit of vulnerable people and two Agents of Caritas Mahagi-Nioka, currently hospitalized in Kampala following fairly serious illnesses, a donation from Caritas Nebbi (the neighboring diocese of Uganda) and Centenary Rural Development Bank (Banking institution of the Episcopal Conference of neighboring Uganda) to orphans of the diocese of Mahagi-Nioka.
In the room, children from the nursery and primary cycles of the Saints Enfants de Fatima School Complex, work of Caritas-Development Mahagi-Nioka, were invited. Objective: to show the audience their good education, in particular through declamations of poems on charity and skits in English.
The day ended with a fraternal meal alongside the first Christian of the Diocese of Mahagi-Nioka, Monsignor Sosthène Ayikuli, and the Director of Caritas-Development Mahagi-Nioka, well accompanied by his entire dynamic team.
